A. Luckes & Son Removals is more than just a moving company – it’s a family legacy. For nearly 30 years, our family-run team has been helping the Swindon community move homes and offices with a friendly, “can-do” attitude. From humble beginnings in the 1990s to a thriving business today, we’ve stayed true to one simple mission: make your move as smooth and stress-free as possible.
Our Family Story
Back in the early 1990s, our founders Sally and Alex Luckes decided to turn their passion for helping people move into a business. They started a small removals service in Swindon in 1996, working hard to build a reputation for reliability and personal service. With “our family name on the side of the vans,” they took personal pride in every job – and it showed. Customers soon learned that with A. Luckes & Son, moving could be a friendly, hassle-free experience.
As the years went by, the company grew and so did the services we offer. Sally and Alex noticed many of our removal customers needed extra storage space for their belongings. Ever eager to help, they expanded the business to create a dedicated self-storage branch. In 2016, they launched M4 Self Store, our sister company focused on secure, flexible storage solutions. This meant our clients could get everything – packing, moving and storage – under one roof, with the same trusted family team.
Today, A. Luckes & Son Removals is proudly run by the next generation. Sally and Alex’s son, Max, now leads the business, carrying on the family tradition of great customer care. Having grown up in the removals world, Max ensures our values remain at the heart of everything we do.
And it’s still a family affair in every sense – Max’s sister, Maddie, is our enthusiastic Packing Assistant, often the one helping carefully wrap your dishes and box up your memories for a safe journey. Don’t be surprised if you see multiple Luckes family members on a job; we really do treat the company as an extension of our home, and every client as part of our extended family.
Giving Back and Going Green
Giving back to our community
We love to give back to the community. Here some of the work we’ve done so far
- Built and installed 50 bird boxes at Coate Water
- Sponsored 5 orphans in Zambia and paid for their schooling as part or the Cameron’s Orphanage project
- Donated to Circus Starr allowing parents and children with learning disabilities to go to a calm and inclusive circus.
- Donated to the Aerobility giving disabled people the gift of flying an aeroplane with certitied instructors
- Donated space to Tiny but Mighty Swindon as a place to store and drop off donations
- Chosen mover & storer for Julia’s house hospices for the auction of the ‘Swin Dogs”
Being a local family business, we believe in giving back to our community and taking care of the environment. We’re committed to doing business the right way – with heart and responsibility. Some of our initiatives include:
One Move = One Tree: For every house or office move we complete, we plant a tree in partnership with Just One Tree, a non-profit dedicated to global reforestation. This means that when you move with us, you’re also helping green our planet, one move at a time. It’s our way of investing in a brighter, eco-friendly future for the next generation.
Supporting Local Charities: We love our Swindon community, and we’re always ready to lend a hand. Over the years we’ve supported wonderful local causes – for example, working with Tiny But Mighty, a Swindon charity that supports families with babies in neonatal care. Whether it’s donating our services, raising awareness, or helping out during community events, we feel it’s important to give back to the community that’s supported us for so long.
